Angelina Jolie has spent decades captivating audiences with her performances, but her children have no plans to follow in her footsteps. While she has embraced the world of cinema, her six kids prefer to stay away from the spotlight.
During a panel at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival on February 5, Jolie spoke openly about their disinterest in acting and Hollywood fame.
Jolie’s Children Show No Interest in Acting
While receiving the Maltin Modern Master Award, Jolie shared that none of her children have shown a desire to pursue acting. Despite growing up in the film industry, they remain uninterested in making a name for themselves in Hollywood.
“They really don’t like any of the celebrity part of it, especially Shiloh hates it,” she revealed. “I think in a very healthy way, they don’t … It’s not a normal thing. It’s a silly thing, really.”

Though her children avoid the limelight, they still engage in creative pursuits. Some enjoy dancing, painting, and theater, but none have the ambition to be in front of the camera.
Behind-the-Scenes Work in Film
Although they don’t aspire to be actors, some of Jolie’s children have explored different aspects of filmmaking. Her sons Maddox, 23, and Pax, 21, have worked as assistant directors on the set of her film "Maria". Jolie emphasized the importance of learning the industry by gaining hands-on experience.
“It’s good to start them in working. You’ve got to run around and do anything for everybody,” she explained. “So they’ve been doing that in a few films. And then Pax was doing some of the photography work.”
Jolie believes that working behind the scenes teaches valuable skills and helps young people develop discipline and responsibility.
Vivienne’s Broadway Experience
Her youngest daughter, Vivienne, 16, has also found a role in the entertainment industry—but in a different way. She served as a co-producer on Broadway’s "The Outsiders", working closely with Jolie. This experience gave her insight into theater production, an area she took very seriously.

“She’ll correct me,” Jolie said in April 2024. “She’ll say, ‘Didn’t you read the memo? We have to do this. We have to go through this.’ She’s been a really tough assistant.”
Although Vivienne has taken on a leadership role, she still shows no signs of wanting to be an actress. Instead, she enjoys the organizational and creative aspects of stage production.
Jolie Supports Her Kids’ Individual Paths
While many Hollywood parents encourage their children to follow in their footsteps, Jolie takes a different approach. She prioritizes their independence and wants them to discover their own passions.
“I hope I’m giving them space to figure out who they actually are and something that they want to live for that’s authentic to them so it holds in their life,” she shared at the festival.
Jolie’s parenting philosophy focuses on allowing her children to explore their interests at their own pace. She believes that success should come from passion rather than external pressure.
Despite growing up in a famous family, Jolie’s children appear to value privacy and creativity over Hollywood stardom. While their mother continues to be a dominant force in film, they are choosing paths that align more with their own aspirations.
